Illustration Friday - Ahead

Hey guys, so I have been growing more confident with the work I've been putting out so I figured I'd actually put this one up on the IF site, hope you guys enjoy my take on it.

For some reason I automatically thought of this movie with the word Ahead, and thought how ironic if it was 8 bit... not much of a story I know but hey, retro movies and video games rock me hard.

Here it is.

Ahead

Hope you enjoyed it.

Illustration Friday - Linked

Hey guys, last illustration for the day. Now I'm going to preface this by saying, my sense of humor is a little... immature. I've had this idea for months now and never really had the proper reason to actually follow through with it, well that was until Illustration Friday's "Linked". The idea is once again pretty straight forward, Slimer from the Ghostbusters likes to indulge himself in busting as well ;).

Linked

Hope you guys laughed a little on this one, I laughed the whole time I was drawing/colouring it. All of this one was done in illustrator.

Hope you enjoyed it!

Illustration Friday - Dip

Hey guys, second illustration for the day. I call this one "Hopeless Romantic" because no matter how vulgar and twisted I am, there is a romantic side to me somewhere, or so I think haha. Concept was a solid one, real heart dipped in chocolate fondue!

Dip

Hope you enjoyed this one as much as I did, all of it was done in Photoshop.

Illustration Friday - Rescue

Hey guys, three new illustrations for the day, actually really happy with the ones incoming. This one was for Illustration Friday's "Rescue". The idea for it was a demon doctor, and since one of the few things that truly freak me out is demon children, I decided to make it in that style.

Rescue

Simple but effective, all done in Illustrator, hope you liked it.

Storyboards - Panda Puffs

So long overdue, but better late then never, here are my storyboards and thumbnails for Panda Puffs.

We'll start with the concept. The idea was that the Panda, whom is more of a human with business suit and tie, is arriving home from a long day at work, raining hard, everything is grey around him, and reminders of the recession of 2009 all around him. I wanted the idea to draw from graphic novels mostly, and when he arrived at home he would be greeted with a bowl of Panda Puffs, and after he eats it, the screen goes from greyscale to full colour, and it stops raining outside. "Panda Puffs has been there with you through it all".

Now for the storyboards;

I did a few more but these were the ones I was... sort of happy with. I had a hard time with this project, just couldn't get the form of the panda himself down. Loved the concept I came up with, disliked the execution.

Deadly Designs

Deadly Designs

So I've taken Leif's advice and have began to stop listening to what others want and start making art that I enjoy.

Deadly Designs started, nerd alert, from video games I've played for years. The nickname originally started in a game created Diablo 2, and I've stuck with it. Now when Leif said he wanted us to create our own persona, this automatically came to mind. I've always enjoyed either a) nerdy fan art and b) "violent" art. So when confronted with a project in Corel Draw to make a personal ad, I came up with this, and believe I will start to create art more in these directions.

Hope you enjoyed it!

Sonic the Hedgehog Laptop Skin

Hey guys, illustration incoming. 4:30 am, can't sleep and thought I would finally upload this thing. Although I was very happy with the characters and background itself, I had mistakenly thought the project was due the week after and had to throw filler text in. I wanted to throw in a winding road from one of the Sonic levels from back in the day, but had only hours to finish it up. I am happy with EVERYTHING, but the text.

Sonic Laptop Skin

Hope you liked it, maybe sometime soon I'll go back and put the road in.

Illustration Friday - Subterranean

Hey guys, another illustration incoming. This time it's for illustration friday's subterranean. My immediate thought was easily my favourite band, In Flames, a melodic death metal band, because they sang a song called, you guessed it, Subterranean.

InFlames

My tears fall like rain
From the longlasting pain
When I look at your eyes
My heart just dies
Beauty divine
I hope you'll be mine
Open your arms
For all time

All dressed in white
Bringer of light
Spend time with me
All through the night

Beauty divine
Your tears taste like wine
Come to me
For all time

My spine shivers with the touch of your lips...
My pale skin turns red when we kiss...
Piercing your nails deep into my back...
As I slowly kiss your ivory neck...

I started to cry after hours of joyful sin...
My tears turned to roses as they embraced your skin...
I gathered them to a bouquet of the most beautiful flowers...
A bouquet of the most secret and ancient powers...

My amber heart started to glow as I died really slow...

Illustration Friday - Brave

Hey guys, second illustration of the Illustration Fridays I missed, this time it's brave. Ever since I was a little kid I had a deep affinity to The Punisher. Easily my favourite super hero because of his values and bravery to face the world and its problems with no fear. So I drew a The Punisher. Now I did a couple of line drawings, with little to no reference, I am not the most skilled at drawing, especially human figures, I had mixed feelings with the way this one turned out.

Punisher

All of it was done in Photoshop, hope you enjoyed it!

Illustration Friday - Perspective

Hey guys, Tom here again with another illustration. As I promised there will be a lot in the future, and I'm about to post two Illustration Fridays I missed. This one was inspired by the free lance graphic design I have been doing lately, working for a smoking company. Sadly, I have been smoking for about a year, but have put a plan in motion to quit, and feel very motivated to do so. But yes, this picture is an easy one. A majority of those in smoking company's only see you as a number, easy concept, happy with the design. Here it is.

GasMask

This illustration was done between illustrator and photoshop, hope you enjoyed it!

Cancer Research Postcard

Hey guys, illustration incoming. Haven't posted in a bit, I've been busy listening to Leif and trying to find a consistent style, instead of outputting random... bullshit, for lack of a better term. There will be a lot of illustrations to come in the short future, just finishing everything up.
But I digress, this post is about the Cancer Research Postcard illustration I have created. Leif Peng assigned us a project in our illustration class to make a postcard to create for a friend who is riding for cancer with Lance Armstrong. My interpretation is as follows.

HopeFinal

Obviously I took a large inspiration from Lance Armstrong's wristband issued by Nike, raising money for prostate cancer.

Hope you enjoyed it!

The London Taphouse Graphic Design

Hey guys, just a quick update. Figured I'd show you guys some work I've done in the past year or so. For a year and a half I worked for The London Taphouse in Hamilton, working as a bartender and host and eventually was given the opportunity to do some graphic design work for them. This is one of the designs I came up with, a layout for a promo card they use for their shuttle bus, explaining where the pickup locations are. One of my favourite pieces of work I did for them. I liked the simplicity of the piece, and they are still in use to this day. Here's a look.

Rick Court's Blog Illustration

Hey guys, another illustration incoming. This time it's an illustration I did for Rick Court's blog. He spoke of the chestnut tree and how when it burnt down it was the start of Mohawk College, which ended up being built at the very same location. So this is my representation of this.

Tree Mohawk

The tree and bird were made in Illustrator and background was created using different effects in Photoshop.

Spot illstrations are coming shortly.

Hope you enjoyed it.

Illustration Friday - Propagate

Hey guys, another illustration incoming. It's for Illustration Friday, again, and the topic was propagate, hard to not think about sexual activities on this one. Ofcourse being a 21 year old male, the ideas were... interesting. This being said, I had to follow my gut and decided to go with a "sleazy" motel sign kind of illustration. Here it is.

Propagate

The woman was actually sketched almost two years ago now and was some fan art I did for "The Killers". I was reminded of the sketch and decided to go somewhere different with it digitally, and found a cool technique to mimic neon lights.

Well I actually have updated it a little to make it not so simple, added some more to the effect. Heres the updated file.

Propagate Updated

Hope you enjoy it.

Illustration Friday - Muddy

Hey guys, another illustration incoming. I had this illustration semi-completed for about a week now, simply got behind, caught up with a few things, but here it is.

Velociraptor

The topic was muddy and I thought of a few topics to do it on, but nothing really peaked my interest. I have an old Jurassic Park poster laying around in my room, and when I was cleaning up I came across it, automatically turning my attention to dinosaurs. Kind of childish, but I love the topic so why not? Dinosaurs are ALWAYS muddy :).

The illustration was split between Illustrator and Photoshop and I was happy with the result.

Illustration Friday - Adrift

Hey guys, been a while since my last post, was a little behind. But here is this weeks entry for Adrift for Illustration Friday.

SPRFKR Pinup Girl

The idea started with the whole idea of afloat being on sea and such, and immediately I thought of sailors and eventually their tattoos. This pinup girl is on one of my favourite tshirts and I even in the future would like to get the original tattooed on my body somewhere. Originally drawn by an artist named SPRFKR.

I wasn't quite happy with the way it came out, but nonetheless I liked the idea.

Illustration Friday - Focused Michael Jordan

Hey guys, second post for the day. Just posting my newly created illustration, fully done on Illustrator. It was done for Illustration Friday, on the topic of focused, once again and it's a picture of one Michael Jordan's famous "posterizing" moments. When I was a kid I remember loving Michael Jordan's intensity, and thought who else better for the term focused. I am not as big of a fan of the sport, atleast on TV now, but love playing it and watching it live.

Anyway, here it is. Hope you enjoy it.

Panda Puff Cereal Advertisement

Hey guys, just a quick update. This is an advertisement idea I came up with while in Leif Peng's class. I had designed a cereal box last semester, and this semester we had to take the the cereal and target it towards a different age demographic. I was really inspired and automatically came up with the idea of evolution. The evolution of man was among my first thoughts, and I really enjoyed the idea of a panda evolving into a businesspanda.

Rough drawings are to come, just need to get them scanned, this will be edited soon.

Here was the colour comprehensive I created.

Panda Puffs Comprehensive

And then I created my own aged paper texture, simply using a piece of paper, a tea bag, and some curry.

Aged Paper

This was my final, using the aged paper texture, doing some tweaks to the logo text, stylizing the logo text and adding a Kellog's logo.

Panda Puffs Final

I hope you enjoyed the process, I was happy with the clever idea I came up with and the results.

Having a little fun, Illustration Friday Clumsy

Well, while listening to Escape from Illustration Island Podcast in class, I thought it'd be a good idea to just do a sketch for Illustration Friday to get warmed up and came up with this for clumsy.

Clumsy

I actually had some fun with this and like the way it turned out, a little rough, and a lot of fun.

Cya guys later.

Hope you enjoy it!

My First Post

Hey guys, as the title says, first blog and it showcases some artwork I did in Corel Draw in 2009. Easily one of my favourite projects I've ever done, hope you like it as much as I do.

Please leave a comment and tell me what you think, peace.
